We're home again! This last trip was a long one. As a matter of fact, we got so tired, we came home a little early. I think I may do this in more than one post, so it doesn't get so long. We left home around 9:00 A.M. on June 12 heading for St. Louis. When we arrived at the airport at 2:00, the guy who was going to check in our bags told us that the airline had cancelled our flight. We were supposed to fly through Dallas to Portland. They rescheduled us through Chicago. We thought that made more sense since it was North and so was Portland. We got to Chicago around 6:00 and sat in the airport until 12:00 midnight. They delayed, cancelled, etc. until we wondered if we would ever get there. By that time, there was some bad weather west of us, so they rerouted our flight back down over St. Louis, our home, Oklahoma City, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and then up to Portland. We arrived about 5:30 the next morning. That was Pacific time so it was two hours later to us. Boy, were we ever exhausted!! We checked into a motel and crashed rather than driving to Eugene as planned. Our room was wonderful. I wish we had been able to stay in that hotel longer. The next day we drove to Eugene. Unfortunately, we stopped along the way for a snack and Wanda gouged a chunk out of her finger on a restaurant chair. So far, things had not gone very smoothly.
The next morning (June 14) we went to Alan's mother's past church in Eugene and placed her ashes there with her husband's. Mary read a nice poem and Alan said a prayer to dedicate the "burial" site.
The picture of Alan, Mary and David is at the church where Ruth and Myrven now lie. It's very pretty there. I will continue on with the family reunion in the next post.
