Girls' Camp 2010

I dropped off my girls at camp near West Plains, MO today.  It took about 2 hours to get there.  The girls are tent camping this year which will be quite different than they are used to.  The past few years they have had cabins with electricity, showers and flush toilets.  They didn't have to cook either.  This year they are in tents, have porta-potties and no showers, plus they are back to cooking their own food.  Luckily the weather has cooled off a little from what it was last week.  I took my camera today, but was so busy seeing them settled in that I didn't even think to take a picture.  Hopefully my camp leader will take some.  I will just attach one that I took of the nightime "We love you" gifts I made last week.  In the middle are fabric fortune cookies, on the sides are some cute bee bandanas I found at Hobby Lobby; they have a note attached telling them how to remember Pres. Hinckley's six B's, and at the top are some visors personalized with their names.  I got the idea for the fortune cookies from my Young WomenYahoo Group ladies.  The Six B attachment was on there too.  These ladies are great!

I hope the girls have an uplifting experience this week.  They come home Friday.

Piggies from the Past

We went to Branson (which I will say more about later) Wed. through Friday of this week.  As usual, we had a good time.  One afternoon we drove over to the old part of Branson, away from the strip where most of the shows are.  We saw this store that was a "dime store". We talked to the owner; she said that she and her husband opened the store 49 years ago.  It was a remarkable place with such a wide variety of items; you could stay there a long time just walking around and looking at it all.  Well, look what we found!  Those of you who are the younger of our kids may not really remember these little pigs, but it was a game that Laura had when she was little.  Wow, don't these little guys look familiar, Laura?  We just talked about them a couple of weeks ago.  Maybe we can play the game when people come to visit -- or when we come up?

Sierra's dance recital

This is a little belated, as it's been almost two weeks since we attended Sierra's dance recital.  I have to give credit to Laura for these pictures that she took of her adorable daughter.  I took some too, but I really like these.

For those of you who would prefer a better image than the roach, here is something I made this week.  Sister Smith of our branch had back surgery; they accidentally snipped an artery during the surgery resulting in her having to be given 8 pints of blood.  Isn't that the full amount we have in our bodies??  Anyway, they warned her that she may well develop blood clots -- which she did.  It has not been a good recovery for her, although she is doing pretty well considering.  I had asked her what I could do to help out when she got home.  Her first thought was double chocolate cheesecake.  Voila.  There it is.  Sister Smith does have family here in town who are taking good care of her -- cleaning, cooking and regulating her many medications.  Sorry to those of you who thought you wouldn't be getting something gross to read when you saw the yummy cheesecake.

How long can you hold your breath??

When we were coming back from Jefferson City the other day we passed an exterminator's office. On their marque they had the following:

Cockroaches can hold their breath for 40 minutes.

We thought it presented a pretty funny picture. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of a cockroach holding his breath. Let me know if you run across one -- or if you find an actual cockroach holding his breath for that matter.
