Bo's Hollow

Earlier in the week Alan said that we should take another short trip, just to get out of the house and do something interesting.  I suggested that we might want to just take a day trip.  He looked on the internet and googled up some things to do in our area.  One of the things that showed up was Bo's Hollow.  It has apparently been there for some time although we had not heard anyone we knew talk about it.  It is set up as a little town from the past with a gift shop, a barber shop, a jail, a restaurant, a telegraph office, a post office, etc.  They also have a number of old cars, mostly Model A's. (a couple of which are in working order).  They will take you for a ride in the Model A for a price.  We opted for a really good lunch there for only $5 apiece.  They will also drive you down to the creek for a picnic for a little more cost.  It was a fun trip which we would recommend any of you to do some time when you come to visit during good weather.  We lucked out there; we went when it was sunshiny and only in the 70°'s.  Here are a few pictures of our trip.

This is the road out to Bo's Hollow.

This showed us we were on the right trail.

This is the car that they use to take people on rides.

They give you your lunch in a little basket.  You get an excellent barbequed beef or pork sandwich, a bag of chips, a fresh baked cookie, and a bottle of soda.  You can take it to one of several covered picnic tables.  Ours was right by the jail.  If you click on the picture to enlarge it you will see that it is labeled  the "Hoose Gaw".

Here Alan is in the barber shop.  He is sitting in an old fashioned barber chair.  Notice all the old bottles and equipment on the counter.

They also raise and sell donkeys, which the guy says are very intelligent.  They keep a couple of them there for people to pet.  Any time they see someone coming toward their pen they come hurrying over to be petted.  They are very friendly.

You can also feed the chickens if you like that sort of thing.

All the cars had been given names.  This one was called "Moon Shine".  Notice the hood ornament is a little jug.

It's about 20 miles from us -- just beyond Montauk State Park.
