Anyone who has not seen Yakov Smirnoff but gets a chance to, take advantage of it. The man is hilarious! He was a comedian in Russia and came to the United States in the late 70's. He was naturalized as a US citizen in the 80's which he takes very seriously. He also paints in his free time. When the Twin Towers went down on Sept. 11 he painted this piece.
Notice the little "action figure" of Yakov hanging down from the top of the picture, signing his signature. he does that on all of his pictures. How cute is that? Anyway a huge copy of this picture was done and was put on the side of a building overlooking the area where the twin towers had been. It was there the next Sept. 11 when people met to commemorate the disaster and pay respects to those who died. He has sections of the big one hanging in his theater. There is one brush stroke for each victim. He asked that his signature be left off the mural; instead it was signed "The human spirit is not measured by the size of the act, but by the size of the heart."
